[to the editor.] Sir— The other day I read in one of the Provincial papers a letter from a Wellington correspondent that the City of Wellington was literally hard up for candidates of the right sort, and 'that efforts had been made to get Mr Stafford or Mr Richmond to come forward, but that both these gentlemen had declined.
