YESTERDAY'S DEPUTATIONS AT COBDEN.

(to the editor.) Cobden, Nov. 16. Sir — A deputation waited on Mr Curtis, the Superintendent of Nelson, at the Court House, Cobden, and, among other subjects, brought three things before his | Honor, s notice, which you have frequently referred to in the Grey River Argits, and recommended their being rectified ; those three things were : — lst. Short weight of coal at the mine. 2nd. The bad state of the track between here and Langdon's Ferry. 3rd The removal of snags for the safe navigation of the river. I have always been under the impression that those matters were urgently requisite, but, from what I have heard this utternoon, surely both the Argus and myself have been grossly mistaken, for Mr | William Harvey Boase told his Honor I that in the time he had betn engaged in the coal trade, between four and five years, no boat ever left the mine without having their fuJl weight of coal ! That there was a first-rate bridle track so far as Langdon's ! ! That the river was navigable, and hinted that no snaga wauted removing !! ! Well might Mr Ray call his attention to the fact that he (Mr Boase) recently had a narrow escape from drowning, owing to the boat he was in being Bnagged, and that still more lately he had a narrow escape from being killed by the horse he was riding from the mine falling over the terrace. So much for truth. Yours truly, VER4.CITY. P.S. — Jt would be instructing to hear Mr Boase explain the why his brother-in-law, Mr Clarke, of Hokitika, deducted considerable amounts from the invoices of coal Mr Boase and his mates shipped to him, amounting in some instances to as much as Ll2 on one settlement.
