[from our own correspondents.! InvercargiiiL, Oct. 20. Messrs M'GilHvray, Johnston, Toshak, Calder, Kinross, Basstian, and Wilson have been elected for the united Council of Otago and Southland. M'Clure, an Anti-Unionist tendered a protest against the proceedings, as unconstituiional, but it was not received. The Superintendent and members of Executive have gone to Biverton. Napier, Oct. 21. The obstructions offered to the erection of the telegraph line at Orakeikorakora, between Taupo and Tauranga, have been withdrawn. Mr Warbrick, connected with the erection of the telegraph line, left Tapueharuru last Sunday, for Tarawerawoaua, and has not since been heard of. His horse was found one place, his saddle and bundle at another, and his bridle at another. Fears are entertained for his safety. The idea prevails that he had a fit. Parties are looking for him. A large native meeting is to be held at Tapueharuru on the 22nd inst. Its object is that the tribes who were hostile during the past year desire to express friendly feelings, and also desire road work to be prosecuted in their district. Mr Locke proceeds to attend the meeting. Mr Hamlin, the new Resident Magistrate at the Bay of Plenty, is now at Tapueharura. Chkistchurch, Oct. 21. In the Provincial Council to-day, the Government announced their resignation, in consequence of an adverse vote regarding the manner of apportionment of the loan charges for the district south of the Rangatata. Mr Keneway, one of the members for the Timaru district, is now attempting to form a Ministry.
