CAMPTOWN.
Wednesday, October 5. (Before Mr Warden Whitefoord.) A special application was made to the Warden by Messrs T. H. Sullivan and Daniel Tenis, on behalf of the "Dismal Swamp Gold Mining Company," for a double area of ground, on account of the difficult and expensive nature of the works, and as an encouragement to the shareholders to continue further prospecting. The ground applied for is situated in the morass on the top of the range, between the head of the Left-hand branch of No Town Creek and Red Jack's Creek. Mr Sullivan explained the nature of the company's workings ; the tunnel was now in 160 ft. The ground could not. be prospected by means of shafts, in consequence of the surface water, and as a tunnel was a tedious and expensive operation, the company applied for a frontage of 1000 ft, as a reasonable equivatent for the large outlay they intended to make. The company consists of nine shareholders, four of •whom keep the work going day and night, the other five contribute a proportionate share each, of money, in lieu of labor. The Warden said he was inclined to grant the application ; he approved of the company's plan of raising funds for prospecting, and he would place no obstacle in the way of co-operative associations of the kind. He would visit the ground, and if the facts were as stated, the application would be granted. 4 There were no other cases of inportance, and the Court adjourned to the 1 9th October.
