Wheat rose in Liverpool to 12s per bushel ; it is now firm at 11s 3d. The markets in San Francisco are very much disturbed. Wool has an upward tendency, the advance of Id to 2d being maintained. New Zealand flax and gum. are firm at last quotations. Good wheat in California at Idol. 60c. Hides are firm at previous quotations. Another telegram, special to the San Francisco Bulletin, August 9, states that consols are 91 J. Money is at 91 § for account. Tallow has steadily advanced a shilling from the probability of Russia being involved in the war. Fine mutton is 40s to 43s 3d ; Australian dull, and no sales. Wool dull ; sales made at fair prices, but nothing practically doing. Hides languid. Flax — Low qualities neglected ; fair qualities firm. The Melita sailed for Wellington, and the May Queen for Otago, on sth August. The shipping trade is very dull. Paris, August 10. Treboureeis firm. Discounts are reduced by the Bank of France to six per cent.
Webb's Subsidy Bill lapsed, but will be amongst the first business taken up when Congress meets.
The North Pacific Transportation Company are ' to put out the Moses Taylor, 1534 tons register, next month, from San Francisco to Honolulu. Collie, Stewart and Co. write to the Neivs of the World that their line will go into immediate operation on receiving documents from Australia, showing that they will pay the balance of the subsidy asked, and that the Colonial contributions will be largely aided by subsidies from America and the Pacific Islands, and the service will be by the largest and fastest ships.
