Napier, September 5. On the 30th August, J udge Munro and a large party of suitors and visitors went to Ohinemuri, per steamer Challenger, to open the Land Court. On the 31st, they came back to Shortland. Having landed | chairs and paraphernalia for a Court, the Mere .Curu and women reshipped them, and requested the steamer to leave at once. They waited over night, but the Mere determined the Court could not be held. There is great disappointment and disaffection The chiefs whom the bailiffs are after for debt are still at large. A native meeting soon to be held at Tonkangamutu is expected to be very large. Two hundred Arawas and Titokowaru and party will be there. It is reported that King Tawhaia has left it to tlie Ngatainaniapoto tribes to decide if the telegraph shall go through Maori lands. Arrived. — Harmon, from Lyttelton. Long Drive shares were L 9 yesterday, Lll to-day, and there is a downward tendency again. . Caledonia's were selling at LlO last week, and are L2O to-day. It is reported they have struck the Golden Crown reef. G. W. Binuey reports : — Wheat 'scarce at 4s 9d to ss ; oats firm at 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; flour, Ll4 ; cheese, 9d ; butter very dull at 9d ; bacon firm at 9d ; hams, lOd to lid ; oatmeal scarce at Ll9 10s.
