Melbourne. —The Arum of the 2oth inst. reports :— A fair amount of business continues to be transacted in the import markets. Nothing of a speculative character has come under our notice, but notwithstanding this, sales to a fair extent have been effected. There has been more inquiry for flour, but only in parcels of 20 to 25 tons in a line, sales being reported at from Ll2 15s for brands in better favour. Inferior Victorian wheat has been go-, rid of at 5s 6d to 5s 7d, while good to fine qualities are readily saleable at 5s 9d to 6s . Oats have attracted improved attention. We hear of a shipment of 1,400 bags having been cleared off m oue line, and smaller parcels of three to four bags each have also been disposed of at prices ranging from 3s 5d to 3s 6d and 3s 7d. Maize is likewise j in better request ; we hear of trade parcels being quitted at 4s l^d to 4s 2d and up to 4s 3d. A very brisk demand is maiutainel for sugars. We are informed of some 2000 bags having been placed in trade parcels, at from L3O to L 34, and up to L 37 for low browns, low yellows to bright yellow qualities. Inquiries for low congou teas are still kept up with considerable spirit, as the larger buyers still show every desire to operate freely. Sales are reported of line of chests aud half chests at from 9id to Is. We note a somewhat irregular demand for malt; a parcel of 1600 bushels, a very superior sample, was taken up this forenoon at an extreme figure. Country buyers of cornsacks having been making purchases, some 60 bales have been taken up in one line at 12s 6d. Colxa oil is in slightly better favor, at a trifle , higher rate ; a shipment in bulk was placed at 4s 7d, and we learn that 4s lid was offered and refused for a parcel in drums. Sales of Two Seas tobaccoes at Is 5d were mentioned this afternoon. We observe that on Monday some 214 packages aromatics will be offered for public sale. At the low prices now ruling for kerosene oil, a considerable amount of trade inquiry is experienced, and ssiles are very freely effected at up to 2s 2d, according to brand ; about 10i!0 cases have been got rid of in the course of the day. In liquids, we hear of sales of 10 per cent. o.p. rum at 3s 3d.
