THE GOLD ROBBERY AT CLYDE
ARREST OF THE ROBBERS AND DISCO VERY OF THE TREASURE. [from our own correspondents.] Oamartt, August 13. A man named Elvis has been arrested, charged with being implicated in the gold robbery at Clyde. - . A stolen L 5 note has been recovered. Dunedin, August 15, 11.20 a.m. A man named Rennie, of Arrowtown, is in custody, having confessed to the gold robbery at Clyde. The gold and notes are reported to be safe. The Deputy-Supetfntendent has received a telegram from certain residents in Queenstown, stating that the thieves were in custody, and claiming the rewards. 1.20 p.m. Rennie, after confession, took the police to the place where the treasure was planted. All of it was recovered excepting about six hundred pounds in notes, which were lost by the thief. A policeman stationed at Clyde is sv.Sr pectcd of being implicated. The treasure was secreted in four different places, extending over a distance of 40 miles. Wellington, August 15.
