COLLISION AT SEA

FOUNDERING OF THE s.s. TACJRANGA WITH ALL HANDS.

Nelson, August 9. The s.s. Phoebe ha 3 arrived from Auckland. The Wonga Wonga arrived at Auckland from Sydney with 40 passengers, and sailed for Honolulu on Sunday. It is now ascertained that the steamer I Tauranga, Captain Bolger, was in collision with the coal ketch Enterprise, and foundered with all the passengers and crew on board— in all 21 souls. The Enterprise struck her hear the engine compartment. It is believed she sunk at once. Cries were heard a short distance from the spot where the collision took place. As we have {formerly stated, the Enterprise crew got into the boat, and were afterwards picked up. The boat had no rollocks, and she could not g6 to windward. - ■•■-•■ The Court of Inquiry find that blame is attached to Willis, master of the ketch, for carrying no lights. This melancholy event has caused great sensation in Auckland.

The San Francisco Mail ha 3 not arrived ; it ia due in Auckland on the 10th. The Auckland Gold Field for July, produced about 12,0000z. There is no, important news. The Gothenburg for Melbourne, via the Grey and Hokitika, sailed hence this morning. Hokitika, August 10. The Maid of Erin, from Melbourne/ is cruising in the offing, and cannot be towed in to-day. The weather is boisterous. The Tararna, from Melbourne, expected on the Bth, ha 3 not yet arrived.
