The Robert Burns Hotel, Westport, purchased by Mr Sheahan, has been very successfully removed by Messrs Bull and Bond, the contractors, from the beach to a section in Lyttelton street. Men who cheat their partners in business by stealing or U3ing the property of the copartnership for their own private uses, are being tenderly attended to by the Legislature. A bill is passing through both Houses of the Assembly, to provide for making such partner at once liable for such appropriations instead of being, as at present; protected by the circumstances that the property is partnership property. Some ah-alagous tenderness is wanted in the bankruptcy law. Some people havo suggested that no " whitewashing" should be permitted ; but that every man should be liable for his jiist debts until .they are paid. Does any solvent creditor object
