Chrtstcuurch.— The Lyttelton Times of the 30th ult reports : — In the grain market a steady demand lias been experienced, but few deliveries from the country have takeu place, owing to the heavy rains. The. roads were getting iuto a better state, but the late wet weather has

cut them up badly, aud in some districts farmers will be unable to forward their grain for a considerable time. Wheat, for immediate delivery is readily placed at quotations ranging from 3s 8d to 3s lOd. Wheat for forward delivery fetches 3s 5d to 3s 6d ; but tanners are careless in selling, as they anticipate a further advance. Oats are freely placed at low rates. Sales of prime potato have been few, owing to the reduced stocks at present held in stors. This cereal now realises 2s 6d, and even as high as 23 7d isreported for prompt deliveries. The price given to farmers ranges from 2s 4d to 2s sid, the purchased to allow about one month to forward. If anything, barley is looking up, but owing to the few buyers the demand is easily satisfied. The brewers only purchase the best samples, and sales of small lines have taken place at 3s 6d to 3s Bd, while medium and faulty may be quoted at 2s 9d to 3s. Provisions are being dealt iv to some extent, at the following quotations : — Prime cured butter fetches 9d to 9£d ; cheese, 6J to 6|d ; hams and bacon in equal assortments, say 7Jd to Bsd, Potatoes continue unsaleable at anything over 255.
