The s.s. Waipara finished tendering the brig Magnet in the roadstead yesterday afternoon, by putting on board of her a cargo of coal and sheepskins. It was expected that the brig would up anchor, and sail for Melbourne, last night or early this morning. It will bo seen by telegrams published elsewhere that the s s. Omeo arrived at the Bluff yesterday morning, from Melbourne. Advertisements are now appearing in the Christchurch papers for a schooner to convey produce to Greymouth. The Ceres was the only vessel loading at Melbourne for this port when the Claud Hamilton left. The schooner Mary Van Every, Captain Deuchrass, from Wanganui, was brought to tho wharf by the p.s. Dispatch, on Thursday afternoon. She left Wanganui on Sunday; last, had splendid weather, with alight S.W. breeze all the way, and arrived in the roadstead on Thursday, where she was picked up by the tag, and brought in. She brings a cargo of potatoes for D. Maclean and Co. and Naucarrow, Henderson and Co. The s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell; from Nelson, Westport, and Hokitika, arrived at the wharf during Wednesday night. Op Thursday her cargo was landed, and the same afternoon she sailed on her return northern trip. What has long been predicted not only by the West Coast Times, but by every person who has taken the smallest trouble to watch the course of the Hokitika River for some time back, has at length come to pass. The river alongside the wharf is now so shallow, that on Thursday the steamer Lioness stuck on the sand ridge, extending to the lower wing-dam, and that at the top of high water. The tides are certainly at the neap, but the wharf is now inaccessible to the steam-tug, and of coarse the vessels in port are in a state of blockade from the same cause. The s.s. Claud Hamilton left Hobson's Bay at 3 p.m. on the 7th, passed Port Phillip Heads at 6, and Cape Schank at 8, the same night, and Swan island at a p.m. the folio iving day. Experienced fine weather during the passage ; made the S.W. Cape at 5 p.m. on the 12th, and entered Bluff Harbor at daylight on the 13tb, discharged cargo and sailed at 4 p.m. same day, arriving at Port Chalmers the following morning, and sailed at 2 p.m. on the 15th; arrived at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. on the 16th, receiving a quantity of grain, and sailed for Wellington at 3 p.m. on the 18th, arrived at 10 a.m. and sailed at 10 p.m on the 19th ; arrived off Nelson 8 a.tn, on the 20th, and entered Jiarbour at 11 a.m. ; discharged . cargo and sailed for West Coast at 1.30 a.m. on the 21st, arriving off Greymouth at 2 a. in. on the 22nd. Early on the flood tide the p.s. Dispatch made an attempt to cross the bar, but had to return as there was not sufficient water. About an hour later she made anpther attempt, crossing easily, and transhipping the Claud's passengers and cold. She put on board 18 passengers fcr Mcl« bourne, and 2000ozs of gold from the Bank of New South Wales, and 17500zs from the Bank of New Zealand, and brought ashore eight passengers. The Claud was then passed on to Hokitika.
