Captain Boscatid of the TVaipara reports a depth of Bft 6in upon the bar when he came in previous to high, water, but he also abates that the channel is somewhat intricate. It is therefore evident that it is fast resuming its usual character and will, in a few days, be fit for vessels of the largest draught trading here to enter with perfect ease and safety.

After taking abouc thirty tons of cargo yesterday afternoon from the brig Magnet, the Waipara crossed the bar, intending to discharge it previous to going out again, but immediately on arriving at the wharf, and Captain Bascaud reporting to the owner of the brig, the steamer re-crossed and once more went alongside her charge, where she remained until she had taken about 70 tons of her cargo on board. No time was lost when she came up to the Transit-shed in discharging, as the captain intended to take 200 or 300 tons of coal for the brig as ballast this morning. It is calculated that the Magnet will be fully discharged either this evening or to-morrow morning, should the Waipira be enabled to make two trips . outwards and inwards to-day. The Omeo, from Melbourne, is hourly expected at the Bluff, being now fully due. She will come round by way of East Coast ports before taking her departure on her return trip. < As the Claud Hamilton anived at Nelson yesterday, and will leave to-day for the West Coast, she may- be fully expected here to-morrow early, when the Dispatch will take out intending passengers for Melbourne.
