THE PRESIDENT'S ANTI-FENIAN PROCLAMATION.
By the Pkesidbm of the United States op America.; ; ,- a proclamation. s Whereas it has come to'my' knowledge that sundry illegal .military enterprises, and' expeditions' are being - set bi foot within the territory and jurisdiction of the United States, with . a ' view, to carry on the same from such territory and jurisdiction against the people and disstrict of the Dominion Pf Canada, within the Dominion of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain arid Ireland, with whom the United States is at peace ; : . /, Now, therefore, I, Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States, do hereby admonish all good persons in the military jurisdiction 6f the United States, against aiding, countenancing, „ abetting, or taking part in such Unlawful proceedings ; and I dp hereby warn all persons that by committing such illegal acts they will forfeit all right to the protection of this Government, or to its interference on their behalf to rescue them from the consequences of their .own acts. And I do hereby enjoin all officials in the 1 service of the United States to employ all their lawful authority and power to prevent and defeat the aforesaid unlawful proceeding, and to arrest arid bripg to justice all persons who may' t?e'. engaged therein. .
