arid 26 remained in Hospital on June 30 1870. Of the indoor patients 72 came from the Province of Nelson, and 105 from Westland. The causes of death were — Lung disease, 5 ; heart disease, 4 ; fever, 1 ; appoplexy and spinal affections, 2 — total, 12 ; but of these 7 were admitted in a moribund condition, and died within 30 hours of their admission. The average stay of each patient in the Hospital was 62 days ; and the average cost of each patient per week, LI 18s 4d. The report also contained comparative statements of the ages, religions, occupations, and nationalities of the patients, and a classification of their diseases. Mr Nancarrow moved, and Mr James Patok seconded, " that the reports be received and adopted," which was carried. Mr M. Kennedy thought that the services of the hon. treasurer, Mr G. King, and secretary, Mr C. Winter, should be formally recognised, and moved that a vote of thanks be recorded to those gentlemen for the able manner in which they had discharged their duties. MrJ. Greenwood seconded the motion, with a full knowledge of the amount of work which those gentlemen had performed on behalf of the institution. Carried with acclamation. The next business being the nomination of a Committee of Management for the year. Mr J. A. Whaia said that the duties of. the office had been so satisfactorily discharged by the present members of the Committee, and the public had showed that they had so much confidence in them, that he thought it would be becoming on the part of that meeting to ask the members to retain their offices for another year. He. would therefore move "that the best thanks of this meeting be recorded to the members of the Committee of Management, and that they- be requested to continue in office for another year." Mr E. Wickes seconded the motion, as he believed that never before had the public elected so efficient a Committee of Management; : Messrs Greenwood and Kennedy spoke in favor of the nominations being taken separately in the usual manner, as gome of the present members did not care about acting again. Mr Whall withdrew the latter clause of the motion, and the vote of thanks to the Committee was passed unanimously. The following gentlemen were then nominated : Messrs M. Kennedy, M. Levy, P. Maclean, G. King, J, KDgeur, W.'Kilgow, H. F. Andrews, J. Araott, J. S. M. Thompson, J. Greenwood, W. P. Strike, C. Winter, HTGilmer, P. Girdyrood, Ri' Nancarrow, G. W. Moss, EL Masters, W. Perkins, J. <W. Parkinson, G.Glenn, J. C. Moorej P. Purcell, H. Kenrick, J. Morton, and H. H. Lab man. The' election was appointed to take pkee to-day (Saturday), at Gilmer's Hotel, between the hours of two and five p.«., and Messrs Fox and Hall were appointed scrutineers. • - : •-.-.■••:■ A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
