•/■'■" Melbourne.— The Argus, of the 18th ,^'tilfc., reports :— , . ' Business in the import markets has been in a measure at a standstill throughput the dayy'the wet and disagreeable 'nature of the weather having had the effect of keeping the most of buyers Within doors. • BreadsJSuffs still show very little animation. Should we, however, be favored with' a continuance of such heavy weather as must most certainly interfere with supplies /coming forward, an . advance in prices generally will be the ) result. Meantime flour is moved off in trade Eircels at prices ranging from Lll 2s 6d to 115s. Wheat meets with a freer demand thari flour ia favored with; but there are . .yery f few parcels to be cot hold of. We ' quote* f rom 4g Jofl £0 ss. At the latter figure sales of Wangaratta are reported. We -note a very fair trade demand for oats, and numerous parcels are got rid of at from 3s 2d to 3s 4d, according 'to quality. Maize hangs heavily, and sales cannot be effected at over 4a 3d, unless for trado lots, which realise
fr6m4s:M to 4s scl; Sugars meet with a very brisk inquiry, and buyers, show much more eagerness to purchase. Anjongst other sales, we hear of the disposal of the balance o£ ihe: Biairmqre's catgo, at a price whichestablishes a slight 'improveriient on last public sale rates, Teas attract more attention, and parcels are more readily moved off. Several lines out of the Louisa's shipmeut have met with purchasers at from Is 3d for low medium to Is 8d for fine congous. We also understand that close on 1000 packages, the Constance, of good medium congous, have "changed hands; 'tit a full price— said to be an improvement on late sales. Woolpacks have been little noticed for some time past ; we hear, however, of small, parcels having been got rid of at 3s 7d. In liquids, sales of Hennessy's bulk brandy have come under our notice at 6s 2d. Under the hammer, about 100 quarters French brandy, in faulty condition, were cleared off at a low figure. Exchange on London has been maintained with great firmness at three-quarters per cent, premium for 60 days' sight bankers' bills.
