Gkbv River Argus Office, Monday evening. The amount of revenue received at the Customs on goods passed for home consumption Saturday and to-day was £104 4s sd. Gold duty, £400 13s sd. Melbourne. — The Argus of the 6th instreports: — In the import markets there has been little business doing throughout the forenoon. The arrival of the mail steamer was telegraphed at an early hour in the morning, and as usual under such circumstances, no attempt to effect sales, except for the supply of immediate wants, was made thereafter. The advices to hand, as far as can yet be judged, are, we are glad to observe, of an exceedingly favorable character. The exports to Victoria once more, and now for the third month running, Bhow a decline of LBI,OOO. This continued decrease is all the more satisfactory, as ordinarily at this time the shipments of season's soft goods have helped to swell the exports by at least LIOO,OOO to L 150.090 more. In breadstuff's to-day we have nothing to refer to in the way of sales. Quotations rule steady at Lll to Lll 5s for best brands of Victorian flour. Wheat is saleable at 4s ipd to ss, according to quality. Oats are maintained at 3s 2d to 3s 4d. Maize has do clinedto 4s 6d, and the week closes with somewhat of a dull market. Malt is difficult to quit ; prime samples are offering at 8s 3d to 8s 44d, but buyers do not care to operate freely with such a heavy stock on the market. Salt is in fair trade request at L 4 15s to L 5 for coarse and fine. Sugars are not much sought after. Various parcels will be offered for sale in the course of next week. We observe that on Monday a shipment of Natal produce, per Tien Esser, consisting of rum, cayenne pepper, arrowroot, and aloes, will be submitted to public competition. All of this consignment is in very prime order, and will be found most suitable for the requirements of the trade.
