Mr Barff moyed-r" That copies be laid upon the table of all correspondence between the Chairman and the Warden at Greymouth in connection witii the application of Stephen Egan, of Paroa, for a publican's license;" After 'a discussion, the motion was carried, and the documents were laidon the table accordingly. Mr Lahman moved— "That a committee be appointed, consisting of—Messrs Robinson, White, Harrison, and the mover, to consider; ithp present financial position of the County, ;with a view to effect the necessary {reduction of the different departments, with power, to ask for the assistance of Qic C.Qunty Treasurer." After a a long^ and rather warm discussion, in which the Chairman deprecated the motives of the mover in leaving his name out of the motion, it was carried, Mr Hoos' name being substituted for that of Mr White. ; - . . ; Mr Lahman moved— "That the Chairman be requested. to lay on, the table the correspondence (or 'a copy of the same) between the County of Westland and the General Government, ! regarding the amount repayable from the accumulated Slinking Fund,, and also; from the Commissioner of Native Reserves." He complained in rather warm terms of alleged delay that had taken place. ' Reeves seconded the motion, and in doing so censured the language used by the proposer. The Chairman very successfully defended the steps that: had .been taken, and entered into an explanation most satisfactory to the Council. " The motion, omitting the. words after " Government," was then agreeji to. Mr Lahman moved — " That the petition of the inhabitants; of the Grey District, concerning the Teremakau Ferry, be referred to: the Public Works Committee." After considerable discussion, the motion was carried. I.Mr Lahman moved-^" That the petition of J. Wilmot i be ...referred, to the Public Works Committee," which was agreed to. :
