IRISH POLITICAL PRISONERS.
PUBLIC MEETING AT STONY LEAD. [OpMMTJNigATED.J Permit me, through the medium of your jd'urnal, to insert the proceedings of a meeting which was held on the Stony Lead, and to notify to the manly and generous-hearted Irish men and' women, and the philanthropic members of other nationalities on the West Coast Gold 'Fields, that this nieeting was convened, at the express desire of the Irish- inhabitants of the'Paroa district, for the purpose of raising funds, by "subscription, to alleviate the snfferings of the distressed Wives and families of the political prisoners now undergoing incarceration. Arid now that we are embarked on this humane and benevolent work in behalf of these poor but heroic families, and that the good undertaking may acquire the" necessary and hoped-for success, we earnestly solicit your help and co-operation by publishing this report. . : After going through the usual preliminaries the meeting commenced business. It was proposed by Mr Michael Dowling, seconded by Mr Thos. Colton, and arried — " That a subscription be collected throughout the West Coast Gold Fields in behalf of the wives and families of the noble and departed martyrs, and those . of the political prisoners who are now undergoing incarcaration:" It was proposed by Mr J. Stephens, seconded by E. Power, and carried — " That collectors be appointed in all the various districts of the gold fields and furnished with printed subscription lists for collection." Proposed by Mr Dan. Enright, seconded by M. Halley, and carried-r '* That the subscription lists be open and continue so until such time as the secretary gives notice of its closing in the Grey River Argus." Proposed by Mr Thos. Walsh, seconded by Mr M. ; Macgillicudy, : and carried — "That the collectors be requested to keep the contributions until such time as a notice appears -from the Secretary in the Grey River Argus, calling on the collectors to send in their subscription lists .with funds or otherwise." Proposed by Mr John Byrne, seconded by Mr P. Morrissey, and carried-—" That Mr M. Dowling aud Mr J. Power be appointed auditors, 1 and that; when -the subscription lists close and are found to be correct, the same to be published in the Gbey River Argus, with the names of the subscribers, and the amount , subscribed." . Proposed by Mr J. Power, seconded by Mr T. JColton, and carried— " That the Chairman and Secretary beinstrncted to write an' address through the Grey River Argus to the Irish inhabitants of the West Coast gold fields, urging upgn them the necessity of making this ben%volent undertaking a success." v ■ Proposed by Mr M.T|6wling, seconded by Mr E. 1 Power, and carried— -" That a Committee be r formed to carry out the object of the meeting, and the' said Conaniittee be called the ' Irish Patriotic Fund Committee,' consisting of Messrs Michael Dowling (chairman), John Power, M; Hailey, Dan. Enrighfc, John Stephenjg, T. Colton, T. Walsh, John Dunn, E. Pfrwer, M. Macgillicudy, > P. Morrissey treasurer, John Byrne recretary;
