The sjs. Kennedy, Captain Whit well, from Nelson and Westport, arrived at the wharf on Tuesday afternoon. She brought a nura-, ber of passengers and a large cargo. Yesterday afternoon she left for Hokitika, from The as. Taranaki arrived at Port Chalmers on the 6th from Wellington. During the run she attained a speed of 10 knots anhour. The S.S. Rangitoto Capt. Maclrie from Melbourne via New Zealand ports, arrived in the roadstead at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, and was at once tendered by the p.s. Dispatch, which put on board of her a number of passengers, and 3056 ounces of gold, shipped by the Banks of New Zealand and New South Wales. We have already published the Rangitoto's report as far as Dunedin. She left that port on Tuesday at 5 p.m. arrived at Lyttelton at 7 a.m. next morning, left the same night at 7 p.m. arrived at Wellington on Friday at noon, left on Sunday morning at 2 a.m. for Nelson arriving there at 11 a.m. on Monday. She was detained here until Tuesday, on account of a very heavy S.W. pale, but started that day, at 3 p.m. and arrived here aa above. She encountered fine weather throughout the trip. Immediately after beini? tendered, the Bangitoto left for Hokitika. All doubts as to the safety of the p.s. Charles Edward were set at rest yesterday afternoon by the arrival of the s.s. Rangi-, toto, with news that she spoke the missing steamer in Blind Bay, at 7 p.m. on the 10th, making for Nelson under sail. She transhipped one of the passengers, Mr James Wylde, who was landed here last night Capt. Holmes of the Charles Edward, reported all well on board, and refused supplies offered by Capt; Mackie, as there were plenty on board his own vessel. He said that anhour after leaving Westporfc on Tuesday week, the crank-head of the engines broke, and she bore up for Nelson under sail, but the winds were light which accounted for the delay in hearing of her. She would probably arrive at Nelson yesterday, but there was no mention of it in our telegraphic dispatch.
