During a recent gale on the Clyde, while the captain, several passengers, and a popular clergyman, were on the hurricane deck of a passenger steamer, it was resolved to attempt to turn back — a process attended with some danger. On the captain remarking — " I will do all I can, and we must just trust in Providence," the reverend gentleman exclaimed, bursting into tears, "My God! has it come to that?""
