(from odr own correspondents.) Wellington, May 2. The s.s. Taranaki made a very successful trial trip on Saturday. Mr Carrington has been elected for Omata, Taranaki. H.M. s.s. The St. Kilda left this morning with Mr Locke for Poverty Bay, Opotika, and Tauranga.. To the latter place she conveys two telegraphists, and material for proceeding with the telegraph line. Rumor states that Colonel St. John has been directed to acj; in conjunction with Ropata, Mair, and. Preece, in the expedition against Te Kooti.
