The sale of the township of Gisborne, Poverty Bay, came off on the 13th and 14th instant, when L3OOO worth of allotments were taken up. The new diggings at Bradshaw Terrace, near Westport, continue to be reported favorably of, few are leaving while on the other hand arrivals are numeious and would' be more so but for the fact of there being no idle population either in the Buller or Char-, leston districts. The miners, generally, express themselves satisfied with the prospects obtained. A fire, by which considerable damage was occasioned, has taken place in Mr Lyall's coal-pit. Deep Creek, Kawarau, Otago. The fire burned for about a week before it waf got under by the earth around the mouth of the pit being thrown into it, and all the working plant and miners' tools, as well as all the titober by which the tunnel was stayed, have been destroyed, The origin of the fire is attributed to the act of an mcen | diary, thoijgh nothing detaite is known on. this point. | ,;
