It is satisfactory to learn that the Paroa Road Board has adopted our suggestion with regard to the proposed amendment of the Mining Rules and Regulations now in force in Westland, and there can be no doubt that, Bhould the matter be taken up in the same spirit by the other Road Boards in the County, many very necessary alterations and valuable additions will be made. At its last meeting at Paroa, the Board appointed a committee, and instructed its secretary to communicate with the miners at the various centres in the district, so aB to induce them to send delegates to meet the committee, and go over the Rules, for the purpose of considering what suggestions Bhould be sent in to the County Chairman, as requested by him. This is a matter of the utmost importance to the mining community, and it is therefore to be hoped that its mem-
bers will cordially join with the Board iv carrying it out in a thorough manner. The conference is to be held at Paroa, on the 25th instant, and the Committee will report to the "Board on the following clay, so that the suggestions resolved upon can be sent down to Hokitika before the sth of May. At the same time, it ought not to be forgotten that suggestions are invited from any person in the County, and all who can do so ought to take advantage of this oppojftnnity without delay.
