An unfortunate- accident happened on the night of the 3rd instant to Mrs Cook, living on the Esplanade, St. Kilda, who, when getting out of a cab at the dresscircle entrance of the Theatre Royal, missed her footing, and in the fall broke one leg between the ankle and the knee. There is at present very little doing on the Rand wick Races, most of the book-, makers waiting for full advices from Sydney. Reports are rife as to thp state of Barbarian, and he has receded another , point in, the betting market. '■Lamplighter, should he go on well in .his training, will, very likely start first favorite for the St. Leger. The only fresh names mentioned for the Gold Cup are Nabba and Titus, both having been taken with Moselle and Lamps for the double event. The weights for the Gxenville Turf Club Races are out, and there is a prospect of a good day's sport. There are six horses for the -Hurdle Race, eight for the! Grenville Handicap, and five for the Trotting Race.
