James, Brophy, who escaped from the Axirbmn gaol, in Maine, a short time since, showed much ingenuity in making the false key for his purpose. He borrowed a pair of s.cisso.i'3 from a prisoner, ostensibly to mend some clothing, but used them in cutting up a tin dipper, out of which 1.0 cut his false key, using a n,ail for- the handle. The tin ia of many thick--nesses, and fits the lock precisely. The handle was made by wiiiding a black cloth neatly arouud the end of the key, on which the constructor worked in white thread tho patriotic legend, <f 177(5."
