Napier, Jan. 28. A despatch received from Col. M'Donnell, dated. Patatere, 25th instant, states that the force moved that morning to attack the enemy's, position. The enemy opened fire from the surrounding bush, but our forces drove them back and took Kooti's position, which was xot attempted to be held, Our loss was one native killed and four wounded —one Exiropean mortally wounded. The enemy lost four killed and 10 prisoners. Our force is folr lowing the enemy, who is in the bush. Kooti's horses are taken, and Colonel M'Donnell has mounted 130 men with them and placed them in the open country to cut off Kooti's retreat to the Urewera country.
