Fire was discovered last midnight by a watchman at Pratt's Hotel, Rocklin. The flames enveloped the house, cutting off all means of escape through the main entrance. Henry Smith, a carpenter, employed by the Central Pacific Railroad, was burned to death. A stranger, in jumping from a window, broke both legs, and another almost disembowelled himself in seeking the same mode of escape. The inmates are supposed to have lost, on an average, 200dolseach. An autograph letter of Washington in Independence Hall, at Philadelphia, has been discovered to be a forgery. The author was arrested. Four new attachments against Fisk's Opera House were issued to-day, the amount of -which, with the former attachments, completely ties up Fisk's interest in it. Colonel J. F. Stone was murdered near Dragoon Springs on the sth instant by Apaches. His avengers, a body of cavalry, met and fought the Indians, and they killed 12 warriors and two squaws. The fight was one of the hottest ever known in Arizona, being a hand-to-hand conflict, so rare in Indian warfare. Three soldiers were lanced. A World's special from Port Jar vis says a railroad accident occurred near Narrowsburg, 26 miles west of Port Jarvis, about five o'clock this morning, by which one man was burned to death. Fourteen tons of coal, oil, tobacco, and cotton, were entirely consumed. When the fire reached its height, James Rourke, brakesmen, was seen in the midst of the flames, but it was impossible to approach near enough to render any aid, and he was in a short time roasted. Nashville, Nov. 5. A fire at Pulaski, Term., to-day, destroyed a store and its contents. Loss, twenty thousand dollars. Troy, N.Y., Nov, 6. A vagabond entered the house of Mrs Dodge, in -this county, yesterday, and attempted to ravish her, when she seized an axe and split his head open, killing him instantly. Chicago, Nov. 8. Alderman Russell's plaining mill was completely destroyed by fire yesterday. Total loss, about 20,000 dollars. Albert Waters, bar-keeper, Clipper Shade Saloon, was shot and instantly killed at one o'clock this morning, by some unknown ruffian. All the inmates of the i saloon were arrested. Toledo, Nov. 1 A disastrous fire occurred at Napoleon, Ohio, this morning, consuming an entire square. The losses aggregate 35,350d015, Qobinne, Utah, Nov. 1. J, H, Beadle, editor of the Utah Reporter, while attending the Probate Court, to-day, at Biigham City, was set upon by Mormons and beaten nearly to death. The cause of the attack was Beadle's writing against polygamy. Several Mormon dignataries connected with Zion's Cooperative Association have been publicly excommunicated by the Mormon Church. Montana, Nov, 8. - A special messenger to General Sully, Indian Superintendent, reports that the deaths among the Grosventre Indians, by pmall-pox, number 600, or half the entire tribe, They are committing suicide by blowing out their brains with revolvers. The whites have taken the. disea.se in the form of light varloloid, but no fatal cases. The dead Indians strew the road from the Forks to Mill River. They demand the Indian agents to act as mediators with the Great Spirit and stop the disease. Helena, Nov. 7. A fire broke out in the Varieties Theatre, The fire spread across the street, consuming seven dwellings, The total loss is 35,0QUdols. Tauhton, Mass., Nov. 10. Wilcox and Gibbs's sewing machine manufactory, Potter's machine shop, and Cusman and Coggshall's tack factory were totally destroyed by fire this evening. Loss : 250,C0tldols. St, Lauia, Nov. IQ. The committee of investigation on the conduct of Captain Washington, in connectioQ with the Stonewall disaster, de? cided to send to the scene of the calamity for affidavits of persons who saw th.c Submarine pass the burning steamer. Parties from the wreck of the Stonewall report that five bodies have teen recovered. The feeling against Captain Washington, of Submarine No, S, who passed the Stonewall while she was burning, and when, it is said, many lives could have been saved, is very intense. The report from Cape Girardeau 13 that a Vigilance Committee is formed there to hang him on his return i?p the river. The new mode of fishing with giant powder in Oatson River has created considerable indignation on the part of the .people., as it destroys an imnuqie number of young fish. Stockton, Nov. 6. Judge Bruih*a Justice Court to-day was the ; scene of a fery brisk, fight between the Rev j. F. Hartley and lawyer Hogan. His reverence struck Mr Hogan with a pane on the head, and was knocked down in return 5 a Rat-to commenced, but the combatants were arrested hy an officer, It is said the lawyer would have been the victor had the fight proceeded. Mr Hanley was committed to gaol fqr contempt of Quurt. CUBA. Havana, Nov. 10, . Official accounts, of the recent battle between the Spaaish troops u.nder Mendiguerez and the insurgents, in the southern part of the EasKr-.i Department, state that the insurgents lost 120 killed and a large number of wounded and prisoners. The rest retreated north by Tenahama. Among the killed are General Timarco, Captain Gunchet ; Harry Qlaviory, Chief of Staff; William Oronstadt ; Genera.l Jordan, Qua. ■ter-master- ; and several other insurgent officers. Th.c Spanish troops now occupy the positions htjl by the insurgents. The burning of the sugar crop in Quba, as proposed by the insurgent leader, Oespedes, in order to Keep the Spaniards from using it, will cost the United -States, according to Cuban estimates, fifty to sixty million dollars* i 1 Customs revenue,
