The brig Sarah, from Melbourne, entered the river on Saturday in tow of the Dispatch, but on account of her- drawing too., much water, and the low state of the tides, she stack, upon the Nelson spit in the river, and was not brought up until yesterday. The Captain rejports leaving Melbourne on the 25th ult, with Kght westerly winds, which continued until the 2nd iust, w.hen a heavy south-east gale set in, lasting for three days. The Tararua was seen by the Captain about two days out froiy Flinders, going west. The Sarah arrived off the bar on Friday last about 7 p.m., and, as we have already said, was towed in next day. She brings a largo cargo pf flour, bran t potatoes, &c, and is consigned \o Messrs D. Girdwood arid Co. __ Thes.s. Murray, Captain Al'GHlivray, ar-. rived at the wharf early on Saturday morning from Nelson and Westport, with a caigo of produce. During the day hejr cargo wa% discharged, and in. the afternoon she left again on her return trip for Nelson, withoirb going a$ far as Hokitika this trip^ The p. s. Lyttelton, Captain Scott, crossed the bar on Saturday af ternpon, after her usual round, trip from Nelson, Westport, and Hold-, tika. Captain, Scott reported leaving Nelson on Monday, at 11 p.m.. and had to bring up under Bush End Point unti} Tuesday inorning, in consequence of a, strong westerly gale ; left again at 2 a.m., and arrived off the Buller at 8. a.m. on Wednesday, crossing the bar at 11 a.m. ; discharged cargo, and left for IJoluUka 0,11 Friday, arriving at the wharf there on Saturday- at 4p. m. Left the Same afternoon, and arriyed as above. Her cargo was landed 011 Saturday evening, and Biie left fw Wesipprt and Nelson on Sunday mornjng. The p.s. Persevere made a, run up from, Hokitika, for the purpose of conveying a number of passengers who were witnesses in cases coming before the Supreme Court yesterday. A good number embraced this opportunity, and the steamer left t\e wharf on her- returu tr^p shortly after noon on Sunday " Thegp ; 8. Claud Hamilton, from Melbourne, arrived at the Bluff at daylight yesterday inoining. The news brought by her will be found in another column. Tho B.s. John Perm wa? at. Bay it came on to blqw so hard that the vessel had to put back, and on entering Worser's Bay two whales were observed {foundering on the beach. Captain Palmer at once anchored, hoisted out the boat, and immediately proqeeded to the place with the necessary lines, and secured them to a log on the beach. Une was afloat, a»d the, other partially aground, bgth being alive at the time. The whales are fin-backs, and will probably turn out six tuns of oil, Captain Palmer will proceed to Worser's Bay with the necessary implements to cut them in, and. the blubber will be tried out in Evaus 1 Bay.
