Thes.s. Omeo, Captain Calder, arrived in the roadstead early on Thursday morning, from Melbourne, via Bluff' Harbor, and other }few Zealand ports. She salted from Hobson's Bay at 4.30 p.m. on the 23rd inst., passed through the Heads at ?.30, and was abreast of Cape Schanck at 9 p. m. Experienced light winds until passing Swan, at 5 p.m.. on the 24th 5 then steady northerly breezesfor the remainder of the passage across. Passed the Solander at 3- a.m. ou the 28th x and entered Bluff Harbor at 10. 30 a. in. Discharged cargo and sailed at 6 a.m., arriving at Port Chalmers on the morning of the 29th ult.» satfe-l again the following day, and after making the usual round of iNew Zealand ports, anchored here as above. Persevere was in waiting here, and rau out on the tide, putting on board of the Omeo 6 passengers, and 1000 oza of gold, and returning just inside the. river, putting the inward j assengers into boats and returning to the roadstead, was towed, by th.c Oraeo to Hokit^ka, where she arrived the same evening. The Omeo, on her last trip t was. laid up in Melbourne for upwards of three we«>ks, during which lime she had her hull and machinery thori/Ughly overhauled, and is now in first-class order. The s.s, Waipara, is charge of her chief officer, Mr "Wignell, arrived yesterday from Hokitika. Much anxie.ty continued to be felt when the English Mail left, concerning the ship Matoaka, which has been some 150 days out, and. no tidings to hand of her since she. left New Zealand. The vessel was built at New Brunswick ia 1853, tonnage 109 J. She had on board, besides a valuable general cargo, upwards of LoO.QOO-iu gold, the existence of wb}ch,on. board was only known to the officers of the. vessel. There were 50- passengers on board. Her route to England was round Cape Horn, and ships that have arrived in England, having sailed from New Zealand a consideiable time after she did, know nothing of her, nor have the agents received the slightest information regarding her. For some weeks difficulty has been felt in effecting re-assurance on her excepting at increased premiums, ranging from 7<*gurrieas to 80 and 90 guineas per cent. She is now uninsured. A letter from the Falkland Islands^ dated August 30, does not mention the Matoaka. The. passengers were :— Mr and Mrs Hancock, and the Misses Hancock.
