The shipping business of the port during the last few days has been limited/ On Thursday last the ketch Elfin, from Melbourne, was brought to the wharf by the p.s. Persevere, after a long trip of twenty»two days, caused by a succession of light head winds. On Friday night the j-.s. Persevere fromHoktika and s.s. Wallabi from Wanganui arrived. The Persevere left again for Hokitika. Thes.s. Waipara arrived yesterday afternoon, and left again for the north on the same tide. On the morning of the Ut inst. the Wallabi left on her return trip for Westport, and the ketch Jane Elkin for Hokitika was towed to sea hy the Despatch, and on the following day the schooner Glengarry for the same port. The s s. Gothenburg is expected from Melbourne direct to-day. On arrival she will be despatched with passengers for the usual round of New Zealand ports and Melbourne. The s.s. Omeo, from Nelson, is looked for in the roadstead this afternoon. She will take gold and passengers for Melbourne direct, transhipping passengers for AdelaWQ and Sydney. The s.s.
