The s.s. Tararua passed this port at noon on Tuesday on her trip from Wellington to Hokitika. The p.s, Persevere, whioh was here^ in port, left for Hokitika some hours previously with the Greymouth passeugen and 3000oz of gold, which were transhipped in the Hokitika roadstead. On Tuesday the p.s. Despatch ran out to bring in a ketch which appeared in the roadStead, but she dispensed with the tug's seri vices, and sailed in. She proved to be the JaneElkin, Leslie, master, from Westport, in ballast. The s.s. Waipara., Captain Basoand, arrived at the wharf from Hokitika on Tuesday afternoon, qh her usual round of northern ports. Yesterday the master changed his route, and steamed back to Hokitika with a number of exenrcionists for the races. She will probably retiirn to-day. Thep.s, Lyttelton, Captain Scott, arrived <m Tuesday, from Nelson, Westport, and Hokitika. She sailed from Nelson on the ?sth instant, at midfiyhb, and arrived at the Buller on Monday, at 10 a.m. ; crossing the bar at 2 p.m. Left again at 4 p. m., and arrived at Hokitika next morning at 5. o'clock. Experienced strong N.W. winds, and thick, rainy weigher to Cape Farewell, Tad thence light S. \V. weather. &he left the same afternoon, and arrived here as above. The Lyttelton briugß a cargo, including cargo and passengers transhipped ex. Charles .Edward, from Manukau. She will sail again thia morning for Westport, and Nelson,
