Tararua for Melbourne, left Wellington from this port, from whence she will be dispatched this morning with passengers and the outward English mail. , The S.S.* Rangitoto, F. Mackie, from Melbourne, arrived off Hokitika on Sunday morning at 6.20, was tendered in the aafterr r noon, and came on here with her tender, the Persevere, in tow. The inward passengers were put on board the Persevere, and landed on Monday morninsj, bnt the Ransptoto steamed away for Nelson without waiting for the outward passengers, who were in waitine to proceed to New Zealand Ports and Melbourne. A mark of esteem, which must have been very gratifying to the recipient-, was given to Captain Hucjh Mackie, commander of the steamship Banetftoto, on Friday, by the saloon passengers who arrived in that vessel from Nipw Zealand on the 14th inst.. after a paa- ; sage which required, an nnusual display of seamanship on the part of the captain. At 5 o'clock in the afternoon several of the passenfers and some members of the firm of M'Meckan, Black wood, and Co. assembled at Scott's Hotel, Collins street, and in the absence of Mr J. S. Jonnson. Mr W. A.
