Dispatch towed out the brig Magnet, careful soundings were taken, and nowhere less than thirteen feet of water were found, with a straight channel. The p.s. Lyttelton, Captain Scott, arrived at the wharf early on Tuesday morning, from Nelson, Westport, and Hokitika, haviug left the latter port on Monday evening. The same day she landed a considerable quantity of cargo, and sailed on her return trip for Westport in the evening. The ss. Wallabi, Captain Daniels, arrived in the river early yesterday morning from Wanganui and Westport with a cargo of cattle, sheep, and produce. The sheep and cattle were landed on the shingle beach below the protective works, after which the Wallabi steamed to the coal wharf ; took in a cargo of coal and sailed in the evening for Westport and Wanganui. The s.s. Tararua, Captain Ha^ley, passed this port without calling on Tuesday evening, and proceeded on to Hokitika, where she was tendered and despatched to Melbourne direct. Her report states that she sailed f rom Hobson's Bay at 3 p.m. oi: the 16th, cleared the Heads at 6 p.m., and passed Swap Island the following flay at 2p.m. The Solander was passed at 6 a. in. on the 21st, and Bluff wharf reached at 11.35 a.m. ; discharged cargo, and left at 5 p.m., arriving at Port Chalmers at 5.30 a.m. on Monday ; left at 4.15 p.m. on Wednesday, for Lyttelton, arriving at 8.15 a.m. on the 25th, and sailed for Wellington at 4.10 p.m. on the 26th, arriving at 9 a.m. on the 27th ; sailed fur Hokitika at 2 p. in. on the 27th. Experienced fresh headwinds, and thick weather, arriving as above. As some doubt has been thrown on the announcement made in our last that the barque Bella Vista was on her -way to this port from Melbourne, we publish her manifest, as given by the Arp of the 19th ult. : — Bella Vista, for Greymouth : '551 bags augar, 10 cases salad oil, 35 half-chests 10 boxes tea, 3 hhds treacle, 6 half tierces tobacoo, 3 cases sardines, 2 boxes raisins, 38 bundles gas pipe, 30 bundles iron, 190 gas pipes, 47 pipes, 15 packages ironmongery. The regular Melbourne traders Io ami Magnet were tow«d out by the p.s. Dispatch, the fonn.er on Tuesday morning, and tl.e latter the same evening. The bria; Magnet was full of passengers, several having been refused. An opportunity, which very rarely offers at this port, is now presented of preceding to San Francisco direct, the fine clipper schooner Black Hawk bavinc been laid on for that port, Should sufficient inducement offer, ana her agents, Messrs. Nancarrcw, Henderson, and Co., have every leason to believe that it will ; the schooner will lie despatched for California on or about Monday next, The 8.8. s£ennedy is expected to-morrow morning, and is announced to sail for Westport,' Nelson, Wanganui, and Mr.nakau, the same evening.
