THE REV. G, P. BEAUMONT'S RETIREMENT.
(To the Editor of the Grey River Argus.)
Sir — I have noticed in your paper an allusion to my retirement from the; charge of the Greymouth district, with the statement that I consider myself aggrieved at the circumstances which led to it. My general reason for resigning was. that I found theie was an unwillingness on the part of some of o«y parishioners to retain me, and which was expressed in so very objectionable a way as to leave met no alternative but immediate resignation. I am very sorry that this should be the result of three years' hard work. But my grievance is of a different kind ; it is, that up to the last I had been led to believe by public memorial, by resolution passed at a public meeting, a.nd by private intitna--tions, that the parishioners desired me to continue in Greyniouth. Having, accordingly, determined on remaining, I was not a little surprised to find, within the last few weeks, that an unwillingness toretain, me existed, -.-. ■ I cannot help, therefore, expressing my deep regret that those persons who ledme. to believe that I was acceptable to them did not adopt a more open course of speaking, instead of their warm expressions of good will, which practically determine^ me to remain, but which were apparently insinoere.^-I am, &c, G. P. Beapmont. Hokitika, Nov. 25, 1869,
