RE-ELECTION OF MR CURTIS AS SUPERINTENDENT. THE WANGAPEKA GOLD FIELDS. (prom ovr own correspondent.) Nelson, Nov. 4. All the returns in the election for the Superintendency are "in, with the exception of those from the Aniuri and Massacre Bay districts, but they cannot materially affeot the result. The numbers now are : — Mr Curtis ... ... ... 840 „ Akersten 373 „ Gibba ... 230 Home ... ... ... 6 The West Coast votes, which are included in the above, gave Curtis 51, Akersten 252, and Gibbs 63. News from the Warigapoka quaivz reefs is very satisfactory. One company has been formed here to work them, with a capital of L 20,000. All the shares are taken up, and as there is a demand for more they are already at a premium. Wellington, Nov. 5. Auckland news states that a dividend of L 3 per share has been paid in the Long Drive claim. 2071 b. of specimens were crushed, giving 915 ounces of gold. The yield from the claim for the month of September was 39110z., and for the first fifteen days in October 25300z. In the Superintendency election, Mr Gillies charges Mr Williamson with buying up the whole Auckland press. The Southern Cross gives him the lie direct. A vote of confidence in Mr Gillies has been passed at a meeting at Qnehunga: A dividend of Is per share has been paid in the Pride of Karaka claim. The prospectors of Ohinemnri report having discovered rich quartz reefs. A small house in Chaper street has been burned. The s.s. Rangatira sailed yesterday for Dnnedin with the Maori prisoners. (From the IV. C. Times.) . Napier, Thursday. Paora Hapi, a Taupo Chief (friendly) was shot during a war dance held there. Henare Tomoano has arrived from Taupo, bringing the chief Te Heu Heu prisoner. Te Heu Heu states that all the roads are closed against Te Kooti, who has no food unless ferns and berries. If followed up he is certain to be captured. The Waikatos have given Te Kooti up, and are prepared to. attack him should he attempt to enter their territory. Te Kooti's original intention was to go to Poverty Bay, and obtain reinforcements, and then attack Wairoa. The White Road Brewery was burned down last night. It was insured for L 650.
