MR BOASE AT NAPOLEON HILL.

♦ Mr Boase addressed the electors on Tuesday evening in the. long room at Creed's Hotel, Napoleon HiM. Mr Patrick Ryan was called to the, chair, and after making a few remarks he introduced the candidate. Mr Boase, in the course of his address, which lasted nearly two hours, fully explained his intonled policy with regard to the several questions which are exciting public interest at present. He concluded by saying that if he had the honor (jf being elected he would devote his time, and whatever talent he might possess towards furthering the interests of liia constituents. The Chairman then thanked the meeting for the fair and impartial manner in which they heard the candidate e,nunciq,te his opinions, and fqr the attention they paid him.. He then said that Mr Boasg was ready to answer any reasonable qugstion which niight be pqt to him.. Mr Baily enquired of the oandidate if he would endea.vpr to prompte the estab? lishment of schools jn the different centres, of population ? Mr Bqase said he would as. far as. lay in his power. He gave a detailed description of the actual working of the Educational Act, which he said he was in a position to. do in consequence of his being a member pf the local board for some time, Dr Donovan enquired if Mr Boase pould give the meeting any information as to the probable policy of the other cajidi-: dates, and if he cquld inform them if they (the other candidates) were eligible for election ? Mr Boase said it was not for him to answer any such questions. He was not connected with any party or clique ; he sought their suffrages on his owti merits ; if they elected him, he would consider himself honored, but if they considered a better man oajne before them, he would willingly step aside. Several other questions wer-e asked and answered by the candidate to the satisfacr $ion of the. meeting, ~when Dr Donovan proposed that Mr Koase was afitandpror per person to represent this District in the Nelson Provincial Council. Mr Baily seconded the proposition, which was carried unanimously. Mr Boase returned thanks, and proposed a vote of thanks to the chair, which was seconded by Mr Hislop. The Chairman thanked the meeting for the patient manner in which they heard the candidate, and for the deference they paid to himself. The meeting, which was the largest ever held in the district, then dispersed.
