T^ELSON PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE GREY DISTRICT. Gentlemen— Having been urged to offer myself as a Candidate for the representation of the Grey District in the Provincial Council of Nelson, I have, after considerable reflection, decided to 'do so. My chief reason for this course is my anxiety that the district should receive greater attention at the hands of the Government than it has done of late years. I have another reason ; and that is, 1 am wishful to accomplish that which haa for the last four years been my earnest aim— . namely, the incorporation of the whole Grey Valley under one Government. I see no early prospect of this being done under a separate local Government, and recent circumstances have induced me to think that any extension of the Couuty of Westland would not be satisfactory to the inhabitants of either part of this district. Although I am known to be in favor of local self government, as opposed to Provincialism, still lam so alive to the interests of the district, that I would much rather see the Province of Nelson extended to the Teremakau than allow the existing anomalous state of affairs to continue. Should you return me I shall use my best efforts to secure for the district its fair share of expenditure, and shall also endeavor to secure the co-operation of the Council with regard to the abolishment of the present boundary line. I regard this last subject as the most vital question for this district. Were the Grey Valley under one Government it would be the most prosperous part of New Zealand. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. H. HARRISON. * : ■VTELSON SUPERINTENDENCY. MR GIBBS, one of the Candidates for the Superintendency of Nelson, regrets that the inclement state of the weather prevents his visiting the Grey District as intended, but he hopes that by the votes of the electors he will shortly be enabled to do so as Superintendent, W.
