THE THAMES.
The rich find made in the Circular' Saw No. 2 ground, Rolleston streetj a few pays back, has created quite a sensation 111 that locality. On' Wednesday,' a large number of persons assembled in the neighborhood" 'pf. 'the Star Hotel, and fourteen men's ground was pegged out adjoining the new claim. We learn that Mr Ross has instructed a surveyor to • -pake a geological^ survey of tlie ground, and report upon it. ' ' ' ' ■■ :• r " A quantity of stone from the Erin's Hope Gold-niining Company Was yesterday being taken to GoodallV battery. The ijtone has been taken from the various
reefs known to exist in the ground, and the present test is looked forward to with no small amount of interest. The parcel of five tons from the Golden Gate claim, crushed at the Hauraki machinej was certainly n,qt quartz, but rather a sort of casing or sap/wi^h small scattered veins, of quartz through it, and we believe we might safely say that the precious metal was never discerned in if) previous to the crushing. Contrary to all expectation, however, the parcel prushed yielded an average of |oz. to the ton, a result which promises well for the richness of the lode which this cap coyprs. The Ptud's Creek and Hibernian United (Coromandel) have amalgamated. A company has been formed, with a capital of 140,000. The united claims consist of forty men's ground.
