(FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, October 1. The first batch of eight West Coast rebels was tried yesterday fur high treason. At two o'clock this morning the jury returned a verdict of "Guilty." Sentence was deferred until the remaining seventy-one prisoners are tried next week. Auckland news received to-day is unimportant. A crushing from the Golden Crown yielded 30oz to the ton. The s. s. Taranaki has been towed over by the s.s. Lady Bird, and is now coming into harbor. Wi Tamarora, who was convicted of murder on Monday last, hung himself in his cell on Thursday afternoon with a saddle strap, which he wore as a belt. It was a most determined suicide, as his knees were literally touching the ground.
