(from ode own correspondent.) Wellington, September 24. The trial of the Wanganui rebel natiyea for high treason has been concluded. The Judge took four and a half hours in summing up, strongly against the prisoners. The jury, after a quarter of an hour's deliberation, returned a verdict of guilty. Hetariki and Rewi said nothing against the sentence. Matene urged hip havingfought on the Government side at Konaki, and his having been forced under threat of death to join Te Kooti. The Judge promised to represent this to the Governor. AH the prisoners were sentenced to be hanged, drawn, and quartered, the Judge expressing regret at being obliged, to pass sentence in suoh a form, but assured them that the sentence of hanging would only b© executed. Eighteen of the West Coast prisoners were released from the hulk to-day, there being no evidence I against them. They were landed, and are now amongst the local natives. ' The trial of the remainder of the'pri- ■ soners will take place on Monday. It ia expected that they will plead guilty of acts of; rebellion against the Government, and will be sentenced to a term of imprisonment in Dunedin Harbor. They are to be sent there in the hulk. The Friendly Natives at Taupo, having been reinforced, are preparing to attack Te Kooti. Messrs Quirk's Coach Factory, Auckland, has been destroyed by fire. The loss is L6OOO, and the premises and stock were uninsured. Spontaneous combustion among damp hay was the cause. In HawkVaßay, Mr Qrmond has succeeded in concluding arrangements with the Natives. to allow the Kaimanawa Ranges to be prospected. There is great excitement regarding tha Superintendency election here. . The Provincial Councils of Nelson and Marlborough have been dissolved.
