The Republican party will probably be successful at the forthcoming' elections. The condition of the Southern States is j rapidly improving. Mr Peabody, while visiting the United States, will be the guest of the President at Washington. Mr Banks, a member of Congress, strongly urges a recognition of the rights of the Cuban insurgents as belligerents. The public debt has decreased sixteen million dollars during the iflonth of June. A new paper currency is to be issued. There is no prospect of a termination of the Indian war. Troops have been distributed along the Pacific Railway to defend it from interruption. The wheat crop now growing is believed to be the largest ever raised in the United States. Ex-President Andrew Johnson has been serenaded in Washington. In a speech he deplored the political condition of the country, which he declared waa tending towards a military dictatorship or monarchy. Irish republican clubs are organising everywhere. It is proposed to introduce Chinese labor into the Southern States.
