THE THAMES.

We are in receipt of files from the 1 Thames to the 21sfc inst, from which we make the following extracts : — We are informed that yesterday a oneseventh share in the M'isaac's Extended changed hands for L2OO. We are informed on reliable authority that a sixteenth Bhare in the Golden Gate was disposed of privately yesterday for three hundred pounds. Some excellent specimens of gold bearing quartz from the ground of the Pride of the Karaka Gold Mining Company, Karaka Hill, were brought up from the Thames last evening, and shown to us. The ground taken up by the Glencoe mining lease, Tararu, has been very favorably reported upon by Mr Denham, surveyor, who states that several well-defined reefs and leaders are traceable through the ground. The Try Again Claim adjoins the Red Queen and Centre of Italy, and lies on the Moanataiari Creek. They have cut three small leaders in the shaft and drive, from one of which a few promising-look-ing specimens were taken lately. They shortly anticipate striking the Golden Crown leader ; and yesterday indications were observable of another leader being near. Some excellent specimens are being obtained from the Duke of Marlborough Gold Mining Company's ground, Upper Karaka. The ton of stone from the Shooting Star Claim crushed at the Kuranui Company's one-stamper was retorted on Wedj nesday, and yielded 57 ounces of retorted gold. This was deposited in the Bank of New Zealand, Grahamstown, and melted into a fine ingot. The Moanataiari Company : A retorting of the result of the late crushing for the Moanataiari Company, at the Victoria battery, took place yesterday, and the result was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand, and melted, when it yielded 485 i ounces of melted gold. This includes the result of the crushing at the Homeward Bound machine. The gold lost only one per cent, in melting. The Otonui Block : The b'Olb of stone from Tookey's lease, on the Otunui block, which was crushed yesterday in the amalgamating barrel connected with the Tramway Battery, yielded 2dwt 2gr of gold. This is the second trial crushing from this claim. Two pounds of stone from the True Briton claim, adjoining the Caledonian, Karaka Creek, were tested at Messrs Gollard and Co'a (late Spencer and Co), Shortland, yesterday, and yielded three grains of gold. The Golden Block Gold Mining Company, consisting of the claims Golden Block, Golden Gully, Richmond Hill, and Earl of Pembroke, have commenced operations on the Waiotahi and Collarbone Spurs. An experienced mining 1 manager has been appointed. ! A parcel of 440 tons of stone from Kelly's Gold Mining Company was completed this week at the Hauraki battery. The amalgam was cleaned up on Wednesday night, and on being retorted gave a handsome yield of 6300z 17dwt 17er to the lucky shareholders. Considering"that the greater part of the stone put through the battery was taken out of the Little Angel leader, and which was considered very poor stuff to that obtained from other^ leaders on this well-known claim, the yield was considered excellent. There have been two trials of the Long Drive mullock lately, taken from the tip on the beach, neither of which has proved payable, although gold has been found in each case. The one took place at the Tramway battery, and the other at Souter's, both of good reputation as goldsavers. The Rough Diamond No. 1 Gold Mining Company, head of Waiotahi and Karaka Creeks, have succeeded in coming on some good stone in their lower tunnel. They intend having some tested at Weston's machine as soon as possible. They have at the present time five drives ( in, and one shaft. It has been worked for the last three months, and has only lately been formed into a company, under the Mining Companies' Limited Liability lAct, with a capital of L6OOO, in 6000 shares of Ll each, 15s being paid up. f The Long Drive.— Another lot of rich stone was taken out of a leader at both levels yesterday. There are now about 2cwt of specimens on hand, and a spe.ci--1 men crushing will take place early in the coming week. The crushing at the Kuranui Company's machine is turning out well ; and upwards of 1500ozs of amalgam is now on hand ready for the retort. The workings at the Mount Alexander Claim, on the Karaka, are now being pushed on vigorously. During the last few days several leaders, all more or less goldbearing, have been struck, and the main reef from the Lord Nelson, it is expected, will be reached in the present low-level, drive when entered a few feet further, This claim adjoins the Lord Nelson and the Collingwood, and a trial crushing of about ten tons of stone yielded, on an average, nearly two ounces to the ton. A good leader, some two feet in- thickness, and from which fair specimens have been taken, was struck in the Una Company's ground, taken out from a distance of about 200 feet in the Prince of Wales drive. Burnett and Co.'s battery, on the Hape Creek, has been engaged all this week in crushing stone for the Wandering Star. The Hauraki battery is now engaged upon 20, tons of stone from the Mariner's Reef.
