The s.s. Gothenburg left Hobson*s Bay on #ie 19th ult., at 4 p.m. ; cleared Port Philip Heads at 7 pm., and passed Cape Schauk at 9 p.m.; Bass's Straits was cleared at 10 p.m. on the 20th ; from thence fine weather was experienced ; passed the Solander at 10 p.m. on the 24tb, and arrived off Bluff Harbor at 2 a.m. on the 25th ; entered the harbor at daylight, discharged cargo, and left at 4 p.m. on the 26 ; had fine weather along the coast, and arrived at Port Chalmers at daylight on the 27th; discharged 200 tons cargo, and sailed at 1 p.m, on the 2Sth, arriving at Lyttelton at 10 a.m. on the 29th ; discharged cargo, and sailed at 2 p.m. same day, arriving -at Wellington at 3 30 p.m. on the 30th; discharged cargo, and sailed at noon on the 31st, arriving off Nelson at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Ist inst.; next day, discharged cargo, and sailed at 3 p.m. for West Coast, and arrived off Greymouth at 4p. m . on Tuesday. There was a very heavy surf on the bar at the time, and it was wisely determined to tender her in the morning. Yesterday morning tbe signal was hoisted at the signal station that the bar was all right ; the passengers and gold were got on board the tender, and a start made, when the signal was made from the station that the bar was daugerous. The Persevere returned to. the wharf, and at 3 p. m. , on the first quarter flood, she again left for the roadstead. She crossed the inner break pu a smooth, but in the outer break encountered some very heavy rollers, which drenched all on board. The Persevere succesded in putting on boari the Gothenburg thirty passengers and 3000oz. of go!d, and brought ashore all the passengers and mails for this port and Hokitika. The Gothenburg steamed away for Melbourne. She would call off Hokitika, and should the Waipara be in the roadstead with the passengers they will be taken on board, but otherwise the Gothenburg will proceed to Melbourne direct. The B.S. Waipara has succeeded in towing a ketch into the Hokitika river, and for this daring exploit there is a proposition afloat I among the merchants and shipping agents to present Captain Bascand with a handsome testimonial ! The heavy surf which has been driven up pn the bar during the last two days has prevented any of the larger vessels in harbor beiug towed to sea. Last night the sea was going down rapidly. The p.s. Persevere, which tendered the s. s. Gothenburg, reported that the channel wns in splendid order, with plenty of water. It is therefore probable that the Prospeiity, for Clarence River ; the Ceres, for Melbourne ; and- the Spray, for Lyttelton, will bs towed to sea this moruing by the p.s. Dispatch. The p.s. Charles Edward, from Nelson, j will probably arrive early this morning. The s.s. Tararua is announced to be despatched from this roadstead on Saturday. As she carries the outward English mails, she may positively be locked for ou that day.
