Melbourne. — The Argus, of the 25th ult,, reports;— In the import markets business continues to maintain an aspect of great quietness, and the utmost disinclination to enter upon auy engagements of importance is evinced on all sides. We note an improved trade « n juiry for flour, at unaltered rates, any diff ;rence being rather iv favor of sellers, as in many instances offers of LI 3 10s for fair parcels I have been refused. For trade pnrposes LI 3 15s to Ll4 has been realised. Wheat is ills > somewhat stiffer, owing to the very small quantity which comes forward. Victorian has been disposed of at 6s Id to Gs 3d, according to quality ; and as tnuih as 6s 4d has been obtained for Adelaide ; of course, sales have not been large at our quotitions ; but fie tendency of the market is evidence! thereby. Oats are likewise very firm ; a trifle more money has oeen obtained for parcels disposed of ; we hear of some 2000 bags having changed hands at 4* 2d, being fully Id to 2d over what could have been got yesterday. A very brisk inquiry for maize is still mail t lined at 4s 2d to 4s 3d. Sales to the extent of 2000 bags are said to have been effected. Under the hammer, the damaged portion of the Lucerne's and West Indi n's cargo of Mauritius sugars Mere got rid of, and iv all about 5210 ba s were quitted at satisfactory prices, condilii n considered. The real state of the market, however, will be tested by the offer of the Thos. Brown's car o of Peruvian sugars, as the entiie shipment will be submitted to public competition to-morrow forenoon. The assortments are more suitable for trade requireu cuts. Moreover, the novelty of thi3 i apoitation is expected to di aw a large attendance We learn of the sale of a shipment of twist — about sixty half-tierces — on terms withheld. A small parcel of Henno.ssy's old pale brandy was placed at 7s .91.
