Per 10, for Melbourne, under bond: 10 cases tobacco, D Girdwood and Co ; 50 tons coal, Glenn Bros ; 7 casks tallow, Hildebrand and Weber ; 109 hides, Letßn. On Tuesday morning the brig Magnet, Captain Clinskill, from Melbourne, was sighted in the roadstead, and at 2 o'clock was towed in by the p.s. Dispatch. She has on this trip sustainel her reputation ns a fns 1 sailer, having made the run over in ei»ht days. She left Port Phillip Heads on the 20th inst., and passed Kent's Group the following day. Northerly breezes were experienced until the 271h. when th<! wind hauled round to the southward, bringing the brig into the roadstead on the following evening. She was brought in as above on the following day, and crossed the bar flying, there bfing a heavy westerly squall parsing at the time. The M agnet, brings a very large general cargo, the " details of which will be fonnd elsewhere, and is consigned, as usu.il, to her owners, Messrs Kennedy Bros. Bulk was broken yesterday, and the cargo found to be in first-class order. So that every expedition might be used in landing the cargo, a donkey-engine was moved to the wharf yesterday, and the first experiment in iml<-ail-ing a vessel by steam-power in Greymouth was commenced at 4 o'clock And found to work admirably. Operations will be again commenced this morning at 8 o'clock, and it is expected the cargo will be all landed during the day. We have to thank Messrs Kennedy Bros, for late files of Melbourne papers. The schooner Io has completed discharging her cargo, all of which was turned out in ftrst rate order. She loaded up a cargo of coal, and was ready for sea yesterday. She •will be towed to sea whenever the weather moderates. The B.s. Kennedy, Captain Wbitwell, from Nelson and Wtßtport, arrived early on Tuesday morning. She left Nelson on Saturday ; was in the Buller the following day ; landed cargo on Monday, left the same day. and arrived here as above.' Ou Tuesday and
yesterday forenoon her caigo was landed, and j she left for Hokitika on the tide yesterday. The p.s. Bruce, Captain Hepburn, arrived from 'Hokitika on 'i'uesdny nfternoon, and will leave i<-v the north this niomiiiL'. The ket>"h Brothers and listers, Captain Perkins, from Hokitika, sailed in over the bar on Tuesday afternoon, in fine style. She brings a cargo of timber for Messrs Rae and Haworth. Two of Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood and Co 's steamers are announced to loave this port in a few days — tbe s s. Gothenburg, from Nelson, will take her departure for Melbourne direct on Saturday, and the s.s. Albauibra, from Melbourne, will sail for Nelson, other New Zealand ports, and Melbmrne oO Sin lay. The preliminary arrangements being nearly completed for the raising of the s.s. Taranaki yesterday was fix as the day for taking over theremainini; necessary appliances, engineers, &c, for which service the Lady liird has been engaged. We understand that in the abs- nee of Mr Henderson, Mr Martin has amended the offor made by the Circular Saw Company to purchase the assets of the N.Z.S.N. Co., recently made. Mr Martin now offers L23,J00 for the ships and all ship's stores, the hulks, slip, cradle, land and buildings freehold and leasehold, together -with the benefit of the present insurance on vessels and buildings belonging to the company. A meeting of shareholders will shortly take place, and there is every reason to believe that the offer of Mr Martin, who has throughout manifested a desire to treat with the greatest fairness, not to say liberality, will be accepted, and the vessels transferred to the Circular Saw Company. — Wellington Evening Post.
