BATTERY REPORTS.
(From the Times, June 7.) The Una Company's battery has crushed 16 tons for the Trafalgar (a claim of two men's ground near the Lord Nelson), with a yield of 420z. Thirty tons from the Dayspring, Karaka Creek, were completed on Saturday morning, but the amalgam was not retorted, as was also the case with the result of a four-ton lot from the Tryover. Commence to-day on stone from M'lsaac's Gold-mining Company and the Shamrock Claim. The la3t retort at Bleazard's battery, for Dixon's No. 1 Company, consisted of 1800oz. of amalgam, but we were unable to ascertain the amount of gold obtained from it. Several small trial parcels have been put through the one-stamper, but with no favorable results. Tramway Battery : 1801 b. of specimens from the Shamrock were crushed at this battery on Wednesday, with a "return of 650z, of smelted gold. We are informed that the gold was of a very superior quality, and realised as good a price as has yet been obtained on the Thames. Goodall's Battery : The following quantities were crushed at this battery during the week : — For the Golden Crown, 50 tons, with a yield of 1260z. retorted gold ; 14 tons, for the Castle and Galatea, gave 230z. Bdwt, of smelted gold. A trial ton from a new leader in the Charleston Claim produced l£oz. gold. The Thames Crushing Company's Bat'
tery was crushing for the Shotover up till I Saturday afternoon, when a cleaning up took place with most satisfactory results. Recommence for same Company to-day. Souter's Battery : The Harp of Erin and Queen of Sheba each occupied five stampers at this battery during the week. The former cleaned up on Saturday, after putting 35 tons through the machine, resulting in 461 oz. of amalgam, the blanket washings, &c, still to.be cleaned up. The one-stamper is crushing the specimens and stone above the average quality for the Manukau, and the show of amalgam is splendid.' The Hauraki has been steadily employed on the Manukau stone ; no cleaning up. The Maid of Kent, at the junction of Tinker's Gully and Tararu, struck a fine reef, two and a half feet wide, last week. The stone is very promising, and the shareholders a*e working it out for crushing. In the Leek Claim several likely-look-ing leaders have been cut in the drive. In the City of Dunedin and Kenilworth, amalgamated claims, Tinker's Gully, specimens are frequently met with ; and from the result of their late trial crushing of ten tons, which averaged over an ounce to the ton, the prospects of the claim are very good.
