We take the following additional items of news, brought by the s.s. Gothenburg, from the Lyttelton Times : — Melbourne, May 20. T. C. Mitchell, son of Sir Thomas Mitchell, has committed suicide ; it is supposed through jealousy. James Fuller has been committed for trial ; he purposed setting fire to a house on Sunday. Lectures under the auspices of the short hour movement ai-e going on successfully. The Sydney Government is extending storm signals along the coast. Elizabeth Grady was found drowned in the Yarra. A party, led by George Monger, started from Western Australia to discover traces of Leichardt. Harry Fuller has been burned in a bake-house at Ballarat. Geo. Lea was accidentally poisoned at Beechworth Hospital by drinking laudanum instead of black draught. Flour has declined in price, owing to large importations. Ettershank and others' appearance at the Bar of the House is postponed. A bill has been brought in authorising the construction of a railway to the Murray. Burnes, a clerk of the Commercial Bank, is committed for a forgery of L2OOO. The journeyman bakers' short hour movement continues. The Rev. William Hill was murdered by Ritson in Pentridge Stockade on May 13, while in the act of prayer in his cell. Large sympathy was excited, and the funeral was numerously attended. Subscription lists have been opened for Mr Hill's children. The Government agreed to give support. The markets are steady, and but little speculation is going on. Flonr has sensibly declined and is now quoted at Ll3 10s. Sydney, May 19. The great case of Wolfskell v. Mitchell I has been decided in favor of Mitchell's heirs. Costs given. The Barb was sold to Mr Reynolds for stud purposes. The squatters at Dubbo have memorialised the Government for an extension of licenses. The Mayor of Darnell is dead. Adelaide, May 19. Markets are rising. Twenty tons of ore yielded 30 per cent of copper at the ! Prince Alfred mine.
