The s.B. Waipara, Captain Bascand, arrived in the river early on Tuesday morning froija Hokitika, and left the same evening fdr Charleston and Westport. ' . ' . 1 The p. s. Yarra,, Captain Kerley, made another ran up from Hokitika on Tuesday, and after shipping a cargo of coal, returned in the evening. 'The 8.8. Alhatubra is hourly expected from
Melbourne. On arrival, she will be dispatched with passengers fqr Nelson, Southern Ports, and Melbourne. The s.s. Gothenburg arrived at Nelson yesterday morning, and was expected* 0 leave iv the e veiling. She may therefore be looked for off this port this evening, when she will be dispatched with gold and passengers for Melbourne and Sydney. The brigantine (3eres ? Captain Hughes, from Melbourne, arrived in the roadstead on Tuesday morning, and was towed in by the p.s. Dispatch on the evening's tide. The river was easily entered, there being plenty of water on the bar, and the brigantine drawing close on ten feet; but in crossing the flat in tlie river, nqar the entrance to the lagoon, on the south side, she tqok the ground, and remained hard and fast. On Wednesday .morning, about 25 tons of cargo were taken out of her by the p.s. Dispatch, and in the evening she was afloat, aud will be brought to the wharf this lnornrn.g. TLe Ceres left Port Phillip Heads on the 22nd ult., and while in the Straits met with a succession of calms which considerably delayed her voyage After getting a fair wind, she made a good run over to the land, and was brought in as above. She brings a large general cargo of merchandise in capital order, and is consigned to her owners, Messrs Glenn Bros. The schooner John and Jane, Oiptain Jacobs, from Melbourne, arrived in the roadstead late yesterday, aiid was brought in last evening by the p.s. Dispatch. She le;t Port Phillip J^eadson the. 22nd ult., a few hours after the Ceres, and encountered the same calm weather in the Straits, -\such lasted for several days. After clearing the land she had a succession of light southerly weather, and made the land yesterday morning, being brought in as above. She is consigned to Mr W. Wright. The s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, from Nelson and Westport, arrived at the wharf at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. She left Nelson at 1 p.m. on Friday, and in consequence of rough weather, had to take ehslter in Totaranui. She arrived off the, Buller bar on Sunday eveni lg, and crossed on Monday morning, at 6 o'clock ; landed cargo and passengers.^and sailed at 5 p.m. same day, arriving here as above ; she landed cargo, aud left the same evening for Hokitika, retarding to this port last evening at 8 o'clock. She is to leave again this morning at 8 o'clock for the Buller and Nelsq 1, and alFords a mqst favorable op? portunity for passengers who desire to be present in Nelson at the race meeting and other festivities during the .visit of the Duke of Edinburgh.
