The shooting of the representatives of the various Volunteer Corps for the Colonial Prizes commenced here yesterday. A gale of wind was blowing across the range, causing the scores to be much below the average. First Series/ 400, 500, and 600 yards. Five shots at each range. Goldie, D.X.B. , - , . - 48 . Five shots at each range. M'Gregor, D.V.A. - - - - 41 Wales, D.S.V.R. 38 Clode,S.V.A. ■-:.-;,.■ 35. ;,;; Robertson, P. C.N.B. - - - - 35 Moss, G.V.R. - • - - - 24 Fisher, H.V.R. • - - - - 20 Third Series. 700 and 800 yards. Ten shots at each range. The prize in this series was not won, as the highest score made was (29, whereas 30 was required by the regulations. The shooting was very bad, owing to the weather, as it was.blowing a whole gale of wind with heavy rain. The Volunteers had to aim thirty feet wide of the target, and the shooting was considered more luck than anything else. The following were the highest : — Macfarlane, of Otago, 29; Grant, of Otago, 26; Fisher, of Westland, 25 ; Tressider, of Otago, 25. In the Cadet match, Otago was/hot represented. The scores were —Pickering, ! of Marlborough, 16 ; Adams, of Nelson, 15 ; Sinclair, of Marlborough, 14 ; Davis, of Canterbury, 12. ■ •
